History of Toy Train
In order to depart Darjeeling from Siliguri in a short time, Fanklini sent a proposal to Sir Aisle Eden, the then Governor of Bengal. Then the proposal seemed very good to Eden. Then, according to his proposal, it was given the responsibility of installing the rail line at the Tom Mitchell & Ramsey Company in Kolkata. That small engine built at the IRR workshop in Jamalpur.
The name itself is called ‘Tiny’. Its wheels were brought from abroad. The ‘Steam Tramway Company’ was then registered. On August 9, the company was named ‘Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Company’. Franklin is the general manager.
A two-foot gauge line was erected from Siliguri. The train, which began with the Viceroy Lord Liton, began its first experimental journey on the 1880 of March from Sukna, Rangtong to Tinadhariya. That year the railway from Siliguri to Karsiang opened. The Toy Train arrives in Darjeeling on July 9th. In October of the same year, Rabindranath Tagore boarded this train and went to Darjeeling.
From May 1938 to May 1940, Rabindranath crossed the Teesta Valley Line four times and traveled to Mongpu. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, one of Darjeeling’s most famous sites, was founded in 1953 and was the first railway station from Mumbai to Thane in that year. Japanese Piece Pagoda
The foundation stone of the pagoda was laid on 3 November 1972 by Nichidatsu Fujii, and was inaugurated on 1 November 1992. The pagoda was designed by M. Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
The park is also known as the Darjeeling Zoo. The zoo was opened in 1958, and an average elevation of 7,000 feet (2,134 m), is the largest high altitude zoo in India. It specializes in breeding animals adapted to alpine conditions, and has successful captive breeding programs for the snow leopard, the critically endangered Himalayan wolf and the red panda. It is present in a wide variety of flora and fauna. The special attractions here are the Red Panda and the Snow Leopard. The zoological park is named after West Bengal Governor Padmaja Naidu and Bharat Kokila Sarojini Naidu.
The Batasia loop
The Batasia loop is a huge loop on the railway track, on which a toy train takes a 360-degree turn. There can be no other way to see the beauty of Darjeeling. There is also a War Memorial in the middle that was built to commemorate the Gorkha soldiers who died in various wars. Upon departing Batasia you will also find a market where you can enjoy local snacks.
