India is celebrating the 74th Independence Day on 15th August: Tomorrow is the 15th of August. This day is very happy for the Indians. Not only that, but August 15 is also a special day for every Indian. Because India gained independence on this day. Yes, on this day in 1947, almost 200 years of British rule in India came to an end. Just as August 15 is India’s Independence Day, so are many other countries in the world celebrating Independence Day on this day.

Apart from India, out of a total of 203 countries in the world, there are 5 more countries where Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August.

Liechtenstein:

Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world. The Central European country gained independence from Germany on 15 August 1866. The country is bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and Austria to the north and east. The country covers an area of only 160 sq km and has a population of about 40,000. The capital of this country is Vaduz. On this day, the general public of the country got together to have a feast with the royal family of Liechtenstein.

North Korea and South Korea:

North Korea and South Korea – Korea gained independence on August 15, 1945, after 35 years of Japanese colonization. Although now Korea has become two separate states, North and South. At the end of World War II, in 1945, Korea was administratively divided. Since Korea was under Japanese rule during World War II, Korea had to officially take part in the war against the Allies. After the unconditional surrender of Japan (like the four regions of Germany) Korea was divided into two affiliated territories.

However, August 15th is a special holiday for both countries (North Korea and South Korea). The two Koreas’ Independence Day is on the same day, and that is August 15th.
